Grace
Kelsey Lamb sings a song called Second Chances, she says, (Rockol), “Is there such a thing as giving too much grace
If I don't leave, does that mean I'm making your mistakes, okay?” Honestly, for years now, I have had those same questions. As I have worked towards giving people grace, I have let people treat me badly simply because “there are hard things going on at home” or “they were never taught better”. Well, yesterday, in the temple, the Lord taught me a little bit about grace. Grace is not letting people walk all over me; grace is walking away from those who have harmed me and giving it to the Lord. People have the ability to repent, but that does not mean they need to be in my life, and it does not mean I need to like them.
We have all been hurt; no one gets through life without pain. When we get hurt, we don’t need to let that person stay in our lives. We get to let them go; they can leave. People who cause us pain don’t get access to our lives. Grace is when we take that pain, and we give it to the Lord, when we let go.
For me, Grace was when I stopped trying to protect those who had hurt me. When I finally said, “They hurt me,” and I let that be the truth, before giving it to God. Then my Loving Heavenly Father gave me His daughter’s grace by saying, “I know, let me heal it”. Grace is not made to be a weight we carry, but a strength, a gift! The best part is I know that Heavenly Father gives all his children grace, even those who have harmed me, so if they turn towards Him, they can be healed. We can all be healed through grace.
Now I don’t know if my story makes sense to everyone, so let me share a little more about grace from LDS.org’s topics and questions page (2026), “God’s gift of love, mercy, and help”(The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints). The healing I received in the temple last night is God’s love, mercy, and help. He is reminding me that He is responsible for those who have hurt me. It is His mercy, love, and help that is given to them, and it is not my responsibility to carry that weight any longer.
