Big Prayers
I love this thought so much. Why am I asking my Heavenly Father to move a blade of grass when he can move mountains? I think a lot of it is out of fear, honestly, because what if I don’t get it? Then I remember two things. 1. Heavenly Father loves me and 2. Matthew 7:11 “If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?” (Matthew 7:11, New King James Version, 1982.
Heavenly Father loves me and you. He is not a scary God or an angry God, but a loving one. He sent His Son to die for us so that we could one day return home to Him. That is something only the most loving Father could do. Heavenly Father knew that we would make mistakes, and knowing that He was bound by Laws and Justice, He sent His Son to make sure we could receive mercy. There is this song, and yes, it is about Jesus, but I believe that Jesus is really close to Heavenly Father and that these Lyrics apply to both of them. The Jesus I Know Now (2026),
“I'm learning He likes me
Even when I take a joke a little too far
Yeah, I'm learning He knows me
Every hair on my head, every story behind my scars
And He says who I am, and it ain't what I do
His grace takes some getting used to
I'm learning He loves me
Yeah, the boy in the barn (and the kid in the pew)” (Lake et al., 2026).
This brings me to point 2: if someone loves me this much, why can I not ask Him for great things? My earthly father is one of the best men I know. I have never doubted his love for me, even when I have made mistakes, my dad has always shown me great love. He lets me know he cares for me despite my flaws. If I look at how much my father loves me and compare it to Matthew 7:11, I cannot imagine how much my Heavenly Father loves me and how much He wants to give me. If this is all true, why not ask Heavenly Father to move mountains? Why not pray for big things? Our Heavenly Father loves us. He wants to give us these things, and even though how we get them might look diffrent than we think, He always answers our prayers.
So pray for the big thing, pray for the mountain to move. Have the audacity to ask for what you want and see what happens. I’m not going to go into a ton of detail yet, but early this year I made a list of goals; it is my 30 before 30 goals. I made it with Heavenly Father, and let me tell you. Some of the things that are on there are hard for me to believe, but whenever I start to doubt, Heavenly Father reminds me that we made these goals together. He reminds me not to doubt and that He has a plan, even if I don’t fully understand it; He knows it. I prayed for big things, and the Lord has blessed me and guided me to do things I have been afraid of doing, and has comforted me in my doubts. Has reminded me that he answers big prayers and gives the best gifts!
